Micro camping in a Touran part 4

We are excited with the latest development of our adventure preparation, the foam mattress has arrived. Camping without somewhere to sleep is a bit too wild!

We had spoken to, and ordered two pieces of 10cm high density foam from the FOAMSHOP after getting lots of advice from them, regarding type and density. Interestingly they told us the normally get 3 or 4 campervan orders a week but this year its more like 10 to 15 !

The foam is better than we had imagined and fits perfectly. Elbows and hips don’t bottom out when lying on it, which is what we were promised.

Our friend has accepted the challenge of making zipped box covers for the two pieces to keep them clean, but for now we had to try making the bed up with a base sheet, duvet and pillows. With the front seats slid forward we can both lay down without our head or feet touching anything (I’m just over 6′ 1.8m tall) The dogs are pretty impressed too. Although training them to sleep on the front seats is the plan. as there will be no seat in the rear when we travel we have harness and belts that will allow Jessie and Max to be clipped to the luggage restraint points for safety.

I’m not sure looking at the face Max is pulling, that he will be keen to move into the passenger seat to sleep over night !!

In our last post “Micro camping part 3” we shared the blinds we had semi permanently fitted from the ‘B Pillar’ back. but due to legal restrictions, we needed a more removable solution for the front windows and windscreen. The answers came from a standard windscreen sunshade that pops into a bag, and a pair of clever pleated curtains with magnet strips along the top and side. These are not custom shapes like the rear ones, but are good value for money and small to store when not in use.

Finally, we can neither confirm or deny that we slept on the drive last night !
